Today was special. We visited the Providence Children's Museum (and I so want to work there...I could just play all day!) and had some indoor fun. After the water room and the giant teeth and the mirrors that changed our shapes, we headed upstairs to the I-Way building room and the 'under four' indoor playroom. I told the attendant that James was indeed only four, though he was much bigger (Hope scrambled up the ladder and down the slide much easier, however, than James who was more cautious).
There was a small, live show about recycling about to start in the next room and I asked James if he wanted to sit and watch. He did, so we sat on the tiny rugs and clapped and sang along with the two 'bowlered' performers. They asked for answers (hand-raising) to recycling questions and asked for volunteers to play cans and bottles, paper and plastic. James laughed gleefully throughout and, though I thought he might lose interest, he never really did, although he was so excited, he tended to raise his hand after every question (even if it called for a 'no' vote!) So when he volunteered with his hand raised squarely over his head to play a coffee can, I initially thought it was simply exhuberance from the show, excitement of the moment; no, he actually wanted to play a can.
Woah. My little boy? Playing a coffee can? Wait! I'm not ready! My camera has run out of juice and--um--what if he ruins the show by speaking out of turn or running around, or...oh. He's on stage already. He is playing a coffee can. Just grin at him and hope for the best.
Actually, he did very well. He swung his costume enough to reverse it so that the coffee can part was on the inside of the placard, but, Clown #1 helped him out mid-sentence. He didn't even freeze. And the only one that peed their pants was me.
Just kidding. My camera DID run out of juice, so the only two photos I managed to get were the two here.
More soon, thanks for indulging me.
